GH Skates Review – Classic Ice Figure Skates
As of writing this, my GH Classic Ice Figure Skates are drying in front of my doorsteps, as I’ve used them quite a while now, 6 months to be exact; and I love them to bits. Prior to my custom GH figure skates, I used Edea Chorus Boots for almost a year, which gave me painful bone growth because it didn’t sit right with my feet. I shared this on another post, go and read that one because today I’ll be sharing why I AM IN LOVE with my GH figure skates.

LONG POST AHEAD. I warn you this will be the most detailed GH Skates review you can find on the internet, that is written by a human being. LOL.
Because of that painful bone growth, my coach recommended that I either try Jacksons, Reidell, or GH. I tried Jacksons and even with their “heat mould”, my feet weren’t comfortable in them. While Reidell isn’t readilly available in the Philippines for actual fitting so skipped it. I already tried GH before, it was my second boot actually, their Loop style which is similar to Edea Overtures. The fitting was still off because I purchased a boot .5 inch bigger than what I needed so I sold those off.
If you’re new to figure skating, you need boots that fit you like a glove. Snug but not to the point of cutting of blood circulation; and those that you can still bend your knees in them.
VIRTUAL FITTING AT GH SKATES
Since my feet already had deformities, and I wanted to invest in boots that would last me a really long time, I decided to purchase their Classic style (support level 85). It’s available in black, white, tan, and blue.
For them to be able to get my precise custom sizing. I followed their guide here, and sent them every specific photo and measurement of my feet. It took 3-5 days of back and forth with their customer service, asking where I felt pain, where I need more comfort, how snug I want my boots to be etc. Once that’s done, I basically received my skates via DHL in 3 days. Yes, that fast.
You can watch my unboxing here to see my excitement upon receiving them:
Breaking them in

The first thing I did when my skates arrived was to mount the blades (MK Professional) and align them to my feet. This is important! You need to find a good skate tech to do this or else your skating will be off. Edges are crucial in skating. Inside, outside, the rocker, the heel. It has to be precise else you’ll struggle.

After attaching the blade, then comes breaking them in. Compared to Edeas which felt tight when first worn, they felt loose? I even thought I had the wrong size! But apparently they’re feel loose because I wasn’t tying them tight enough. The leather was still stiff, so it was pretty difficult to make them snug.
Another tip I could give you is buy those lace pullers. Two to be exact. It makes everything easier, and efficient. There are different ways to tie your skates, so just try different techniques that best fits you.

My initial impressions after breaking them in (took around 20hrs of skating)
- Lightweight but the leather is genuine leather and not synthetic
- No pain. No more pain.
- Very comfy. There’s a bit of padding inside the boot, that sort of conforms to the shape of your feet
- A bit of learning curve in tying them, because during the first few wears I struggled to “lock my heel” in place. The secret is, to point your toes, then flex them back, then make sure the laces are REALLY tight around the ankle.
My thoughts, an honest review
I’ve been skating in my GH Skates in Classic for around 6 months now more or less, and buying them was one of the best decisions I made. Having the perfect figure skates for your feet is crucial in your ice skating journey, and not exagerating but they fit like a glove now.

The leather has softened up now just right so lacing them to make sure they’re snug as a sock is easy. Even after 2, 3, 4 hours of wearing them never gave me pain! I’m able to do nice deep edges during my warmups and lessons. Outside, inside, forwards, backwards. I think these boots made me a better skater faster, than during the time I was tolerating the pain while wearing Edeas (overrated for me!)

However just like all skates, these aren’t cheap! I hope they last me for at least 2 years, enough time to save up for a new one. Ugh, figure skating is such an expensive sport 🙁
