10 years ago, I dreamed of owning a blush I couldn’t afford. I was fresh out of college and making ends meet. High-end makeup was not a priority. Heck, it was that time that eating at Tokyo Tokyo was considered a luxury. Fast forward to today, I was able to purchase that same blusher (OMG!), not because it came out of my own pocket, but I was lucky enough to be gifted with a gift card at Sephora LOL. The title says it all. I’ll be reviewing Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact N in Fresh Apricot

Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact N Review
Now there are 4 available shades in Sephora:
- 01 Baby Blush – Soft and pale pinks
- 02 Fresh Apricot – Pink in different shades and texture + Orange
- 03 Sweet Primrose – Medium Pinks
- 16 Rose Box – Light Pinks, Peach, + Dark Berry
Honestly, I wanted to get all of them! But if I had to choose only one, I got the shade that’s safest, flexible. Fresh Apricot. Did you know you can use them as an eyeshadow too?
Ugh.. Just looking at the case makes me want to put it out on display. The intricate details on the plastic compact give it a glass-jewel like appearance. Not to mention the pink Swarovski rhinestone on the built-in brush. Yup, it has a soft brush, it’s good enough for use. Gets the right amount of powder, and blends it on your cheeks perfectly. BUT it doesn’t stay in place when you retract it. You have to hold the rhinestone in a certain position so it doesn’t go back inside the case. Subtly annoying.
Coverage and Color
A layer would give you a soft pinkish glow. I had to put on 4 layers of blush so it would show enough color on photos. What’s nice about the Mix Blush Compact is that it’s fool-proof. No matter how many layers you put on, it’s still gonna look nice. The irony that this blush is actually perfect for beginners.
Fresh Apricot is more pink than apricot. As you can see on my photos and swatches, it just gives me an ethereal flush. Not natural, but rather, angelic.
Soft, but not too soft that it would easily break in your bag. But please don’t drop it!
Mild floral, expensive smelling. You know what I mean. HAHAHAHA
A good 4-5 hours without retouch. It does melt on skin after a few minutes and looks more natural as the day goes by. The color fades evenly too!
The quality of this blush makes me think of getting more colors from the brand. This could be just my preference, but I prefer soft blushes like this compared to super pigmented blushes like NARS that you need a special brush, or a light hand to make sure you’re applying your blush correctly.
You can put this on top of your regular blush for a soft-focused highlight, and its good enough to wear on its own.
It’s something you can wear daily from brunches to date nights. Ooooh, especially date nights! This literally would make you look like an ANGEL. Even when you lack sleep, or hydration hahaha. It also photographs nicely. Now a staple in my makeup bag, I’m glad I finally chose to buy this blush-on that I couldn’t afford 10 years ago. Worth it.
